Dr. Valbona Treska, President of the Order of Psychologists of Albania

 

Dr. Valbona Treska was born in Tirana, on 28.07.1980. She is married and a mother of two sons. In 2004, she completed her university studies in Clinical Psychology, at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Tirana. In June 2010, she completed the Master of Science in Administrative Sciences. In June 2016, she was awarded the scientific degree “Doctor of Psychology” in the field of forensic psychology, at the University of Tirana.

Upon the completion of studies, from 2004 to January 2016 she has worked as a psychologist at Tirana Regional Education Directorate. From 2004, she has been working as a psychology expert for courts of all instances within the country, mostly at Tirana District Court. In 2011, she was elected the Executive Director of the Albanian Association of Forensic Psychologists and from 2004 she has been active in increasing the forensic psychologists’ work quality and standards. Since 2011, she has been working as a lecturer at some universities, such as: “Albanian University”, “Universiteti Mesdhetar i Shqipërisë” and “Universiteti Barleti”.

From 2005 to 2018, Dr. Valbona Treska has managed her studio focused on case management and psychological service provision. In April 2018, she founded the Center of Legal and Psychological Services “FAMILY” and continues being its Chief Executive Officer.

On 28 January 2017, she was elected the First President of the Order of Psychologists of Albania by the Founding Assembly and continues working intensively in strengthening the institution and empowering the role of the psychologist.

In July 2019, she led the full membership process of the Order of Psychologists of Albania to the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA). On 28 July 2020, she signed the first Memorandum of Cooperation with the American Psychological Association (APA).

Since 2021, she is a member of the Board of Ethics of the (European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations). She is the representative of Albania to the Executive Council of the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (EWOP) and to the Council of Member States of the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA).

In July 2021, she was elected as a speaker to the International Congress of Psychology by the American Psychological Association (APA), from more than 60-member states of the Global Psychology Alliance, in which she made a presentation on the following topic: “Transformation of the National Psychology Associations for a successful global future”.

In January 2022, she was elected a member of the National Committee for the Election of the Top Management Corps (TMC), with a 5-year term, by a Decision of the Council of Ministers.

In July 2022, during the 2nd Summit of the Global Psychology Alliance (GPA), held in Bogota, Colombia, she was honored by the President of the American Psychological Association (APA), Frank C. Worrell, under the motto: “For the remarkable leadership in the development of the Order of Psychologists of Albania”

Ms. Treska was re-elected the President of the Order of Psychologists of Albania by the General Assembly in March 2021, with a 4-year term.

She has published a series of national and international scientific publications, has been a speaker in conferences, open lectures, and is a co-author of some studies and of the “Psychologist’s Handbook on Police”. She has been active in print and visual media on the role of the psychologist for 18 years now.
